First Catholic church in Dorchester is destroyed by arson.

(July) The unfinished building is located on Washington Street across from Richmond Street. The church was being built by the pastor of Saints Peter and Paul, Father Fitzsimmons, to serve residents of that part of Dorchester. The fire is allegedly set by anti-Catholic members of the “Know Nothing” Party.
